Floyd Mayweather Jr Boxing Record
Floyd Mayweather Jr had 84 wins and 6 losses during his amateur career. In 1993, he won Michigan State and National Golden Gloves at 106lbs. Because of a few scars Mayweather Jr. got from the defensive techniques taught by his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., and his uncle, Roger Mayweather, he was called “Pretty Boy” by his amateur teammates. In 1995, he competed at Featherweight in Berlin at World Championships. He was able to defeat Marian Leondraliu from Romania and lost to Nouredine Medjihoud from Algeria. In 1996, Mayweather Jr joined the United States Olympic Team which took place in Atlanta. He reached the finals of the featherweight division and won a bronze medal.
Floyd Mayweather Jr had a successful professional boxing career with no loss and 39 wins, 25 of those were KOs. His first fight in professional boxing was in super featherweight division on October 11, 1996. He knocked out his opponent, a newcomer also, Roberto Apodaca. His fights from 1996 to early 1998 gave him victory by knockout or TKO. WBC junior lightweight championship in 1999 is where Mayweather won his first world title. In 2001, he had his biggest fight in which he won against Diego Corrales who did not have any loss or knock down like Mayweather.
When Mayweather entered the lightweight division in 2002, he only had four fights at this weight. It is all world championship fights where he won two games for the The Ring and WBC lightweight belts. In 2004, moving up to junior welterweight division, he won by unanimous decision against DeMarcus Corley. Not spending his time on junior welterweight division, fighting against Sharmba Mitchell on November 19, 2005, Mayweather fought a non-title game in welterweight division. In this division, he faced his former friend, Zab Judah and Carlos Baldomir. He did not fail in getting a welterweight crown. In 2007, his fight with Oscar De La Hoya, by a split decision, earned him the WBC Super Welterweight Championship. Before he retired in 2007, he faced Ricky Hatton and retained the WBC Welterweight title.
Floyd Mayweather Jr is set to create boxing records again and retain the zero-loss standing that he have in professional boxing as he is set to face Juan Manuel Marquez in September 2009.
